** -aich, sm Cuirassier. 2 Armour-bearer. 3 Freebooter of Gaeldom armed with Lochaber axe or sword. The ceatharnach wore a sgian-dubh or dirk. A chieftain's armour-bearer was called gall-òglach. He was chosen on account of his boldness and bravery and his business was to prevent his employer being taken by surprise. He had a double allowance of food, called beatha fir or a champion's portion.
