crum-dubh
a Black and crooked. DiDòmhnaich Crom Dubh, plaoisgidh mi an t-ubh, on Crooked black Sunday I'll shell the egg. This saying is obscure. Crum Dubh apparently for Crom Dubh, is known in Ireland as the name of the first Sunday in August, but in Lochaber it is applied to Easter. — N.G.P. [Crum Dubh was a Celtic god, see Voyage of Bran, II. p.149, where the dinnshenchas of Mag Slecht is quoted as mentioning the Crom Croich, or king idol of Erin. This Crom Croich is, on pp.213; 214, identified with Crum Dubh].
