lòpan
-ain, -an, sm Creel for drying corn. 2 Wooden frame put inside corn-stacks to keep them dry. 3†† Hurdle. 4 Kind of basket same shape as the rusgan (see illust. there) but of different size. 5 When peats are to be carted, the ordinary sides and ends of the cart in many districts are laid aside and lighter ones (lòpan) of spars or rods provided for the purpose. These had been evidently preceded, by sides and ends of wicker or wattle-work — CR. There was an ancient form of cart, called “càrn-lòpan,” which gave origin to the name Loban, see MacKenzie's Guide to Inverness, 1903 —DMK. [Also lòban].
